At Johnstone’s Trade, we are constantly looking at ways we can use the psychology of colour to improve in education. Many of our products are available in over 16,000 inspirational colours which help us to create visually appealing and inspiring spaces. Across the country we have been helping design learning spaces that can influence learning by not only stimulating and encouraging students, but also by enhancing the ways in which we can use our products, expertise of colour and design to meet the needs of the busy school environment.

Kayleigh Whybrow, Senior Technical Colour Consultant at Johnstone’s Trade, is an expert in colour and has significantly been involved in our projects that recreate spaces used in education to influence specific teaching and learning behaviours. She has been working with Building 4 Education to help create an article discussing the power of colour in an educational environment.

The article created for Building 4 Colour includes some detailed and distinct processes of the different colour schemes which can be used in education.

“Colour in the education environment can often be a balancing act. When it comes to design, function typically wins over aesthetics as teachers, administrators and facilities managers battle with the challenge of pairing cost effective maintenance with durable finishes. However, a carefully considered use of colour can play a big role in aiding successful learning in education spaces by encouraging students to absorb information and participate in the classroom.”
