Thanks to a detailed prescription of colours and finishes and a careful interior restoration programme that has been completed with surgical precision, Edinburgh’s historical Royal College of Physicians has been given a new lease of life.
Local painting contractors and Scottish Decorators' Federation Member McEwan Décor was appointed to undertake the redecoration of four of the college’s function rooms that are available for private hire. Dating back to the 18th Century, the rooms boast various intricate decorative features including moulded wall friezes, panelled ceilings, cornices, picture rails, architraves, Georgian windows and columns. The historical character and attractive period elements of the rooms have been sympathetically restored thanks to the Johnstone’s colour matching capabilities and innovative tinting machine technology.
The existing colour schemes were carefully matched and recreated by the Johnstone’s Colour Consultants who worked closely with McEwan Décor to ensure that the chosen paint specification made the grade in terms of both aesthetic appeal and suitability for use in such high traffic areas. Once the bespoke colour palette had been created, over 1000 litres of assorted Johnstone’s products from its Trade Professional range including Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Eggshell were tinted to the required shades.
McEwan Décor director David McEwan comments: “This was a very complex high profile project and so it was vital that both the workmanship and paint products used were of the highest quality. The colour scheme also had to be exactly matched and whereas some other manufacturers could only provide a limited choice, working alongside Johnstone’s Colour Advisory team made the whole process much easier and allowed us to concentrate on the intricate jobs at hand. The end result is one that captures the historic feel of the project but will also provide a hardwearing finish to help protect the beauty of the Royal College of Physicians for years to come.”
