Saxons Farm in Heywood, Oldham is set to keep its fresh new look for even longer thanks to the use of leading manufacturer Johnstone’s innovative Self-Cleaning Masonry paint.
Located just 20 metres away from the busy M62 motorway and located in the heart of the countryside, the façade of the farmhouse was showing signs of damage from traffic pollution despite being coated with an expensive render only five years previously. Therefore, owner Darren Court needed a paint that would help minimise future maintenance requirements and redecoration costs, not to mention one that would come in under budget.
After finding a competitor’s product to be too expensive on this large-scale project, Darren purchased Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry in Magnolia from his local Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centre and says that he was delighted with the results.
Darren, who runs Guardian Renovations in Heywood, said: “Through my own albeit simple testing methods I was able to determine that Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry performed at least as well as the other product, which was far more expensive. The other product also required a primer, which added to the overall cost and time scale of the project. Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry was just the product we needed, so much so that we are now using it on our investment properties where required.”
Key to the product’s specification was its 15-year life expectancy with the paint’s self-cleaning properties ensuring that after one application, the farmhouse’s exterior will retain its aesthetic appeal for longer without the need to be repainted or refreshed.
Owing to the farmhouse’s motorway location, it was also vital that the masonry coating selected would be able to protect the exterior facade from the damaging effects of pollution. As Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry paint has undergone stringent anti-carbonation tests to successfully meet the standards of Class 1 of the EN ISO 7783-2 accreditation, it proved the perfect choice to give the exterior substrate a durable protective finish.
Touch-dry in one hour, Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry paint can be applied using a brush or roller and as it is water-based, is fully compliant with the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) 2010 legislation. As well as being environmentally responsible the new paint also maintains its flexibility without chalking.
Further to this, Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry paint is available in a choice of 6,000 colours through the use of Johnstone’s innovative 32 colorant tinting machines.
