Can I leave primed timber exposed externally for long periods of time.

This is not a good practice as the primer does not provide a surface that is resistant to weathering and the elements. Primed surfaces that have been exposed may need to be prepared and re-primed. Generally the finishing coats need to be applied as soon as possible. Preferably within 7 days.
