The choice to use Johnstone’s innovative Self-Cleaning Masonry paint on the Centenary Stand at Haydock Park Racecourse is proving to be a dead cert with the results looking as good today as they did when the redecoration work was first completed over 12 months ago.
The Merseyside racecourse redecorated the entrance to its Centenary Stand last summer, after years of weathering had left the masonry façade looking tired and dirty.
Decorating company Premier Decorators worked alongside Johnstone’s technical team to identify a low maintenance solution that would guarantee to keep the exterior looking cleaner for longer and the specification of Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry paint has proven to be the ideal choice.
Steve Mansfield from Haydock Park said: "Our Centenary Stand features a unique landmark clock tower but had suffered from extensive weathering and had undergone a number of repairs. It has turned out to be a fantastic decision to use Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry paint as it has lost none of its potency over the past year – it still looks as good as new. It has helped to give the exterior a new lease of life and its innovative properties mean it will stay cleaner for longer, reducing the amount of maintenance work required."
Johnstone’s Marketing Manager Kelly Quarmby adds: "As one of the first projects to feature the use of Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry paint, we are obviously delighted that it has been such as success. As the combined forces of weathering and pollution can cause the appearance of exterior masonry to quickly deteriorate, our product has been specifically designed to provide a low-maintenance protection which, as the Centenary Stand at Haydock Racecourse proves, helps to keep facades looking cleaner for longer."
With a 15-year life expectancy, Johnstone’s Self Cleaning Masonry paint resists the dulling effects of pollution and weathering. Significantly reducing maintenance requirements, the paint’s self-cleaning properties ensure that after just one application, a building’s exterior retains its aesthetic appeal for longer without the need to be repainted or cleaned.
The new exterior coating features microscopic nano particles, which at one billionth of a metre are invisible to the human eye. These tiny particles adhere to the surface, transforming the normal crater effect of a painted surface into an extremely smooth finish to which dust and dirt simply cannot adhere.
As well as utilising the very latest technology, the nanometric painting system also harnesses a more natural force – rain. Whereas most standard masonry products repel water, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self Cleaning Masonry works in the opposite way as it actually attracts water to its surface. Any dirt particles that may be present will therefore be simply washed away by the rain to leave a streak-free finish.
