It’s official –when it comes to offering professional painters and decorators the flattest matt emulsion, on reflection leading trade paint brand Johnstone’s is the obvious choice.
Matt emulsion is often used to disguise imperfections and Johnstone’s has shown it has nothing to hide by submitting a number of its products to stringent independent blind tests. The results prove that the sheen levels of Johnstone’s matt emulsions are lower than those of competitor brand Dulux when comparing the gloss of the dried film of all products at an 85-degree angle.
As professional contractors know matt emulsion needs to be just that, as matt products with higher sheen levels that reflect light can draw unwanted attention to surface flaws, create glare and compromise the overall quality of the paintwork. Providing reassurance and reliability, Johnstone’s matt emulsions have been found to give significantly better results thanks to their lower sheen levels which help to cover minor imperfections easily and effectively whilst creating a smooth, uniform and highly professional finish.
The independent blind sheen level test, which was carried out by measuring the 85º gloss of the dried film involved the following product combinations: Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt and Dulux Vinyl Matt, Johnstone’s Flat Matt and Dulux Flat Matt, and Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt and Dulux Diamond Matt. The results of the tests proved that each of the Johnstone’s matt products had a lower sheen level than the Dulux equivalents.
The results of the sheen level test further strengthens Johnstone’s position as one of the UK’s leading trade paint brands and follows the manufacturer’s successful performance in earlier independent blind tests that prove that the Johnstone’s matt emulsions tested give greater levels of whiteness and opacity than the Dulux equivalent products.
Johnstone’s official spokesperson Martijn Venema, comments "Specifiers and professional contractors alike are aware that with so many different matt emulsions on the market, it can be difficult to find the one product that ticks all the boxes. The results of the independent blind tests confirm what has already being demonstrated on projects across the country - that the Johnstone’s matt emulsions tested consistently perform well in terms of opacity, whiteness and now, low sheen levels. These facts, unlike the anecdotal evidence or opinion that other manufacturers may rely on, are what end-users need to make an informed choice about their next specification and we are delighted that Johnstone’s has once again outperformed Dulux in yet another key area."
