Johnstone's Best By Test for Spread

DECORATORS COVER MORE WITH COVAPLUS

Professional decorators need paint products that they can trust and, as one of the UK’s leading brands, Johnstone’s Covaplus has got it covered. Independent blind tests have proved that Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt (Brilliant White), when applied at a natural spreading rate, outperformed Dulux Vinyl Matt (Pure Brilliant White) in the key area of spread rate.

The latest data verifies that Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt (Brilliant White)  effectively meets the on-can stated spread rate of 14 m²/l, while the results for the Dulux Vinyl Matt (Pure Brilliant White) were 11 m²/l, considerably less than the 17 m²/l litre stated on its can. This means that a five litre can of Johnstone’s Vinyl Matt Covaplus (Brilliant White) will achieve a spread rate of 70m² per tin as opposed to Dulux’s 55m² per tin - that’s over 25% more!

Johnstone’s spokesperson Martijn Venema explains: “Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt (Brilliant White) was applied onto pre-prepared plasterboard that had previously been sealed with thinned down emulsion before being assessed and achieving the stated spread 14 m²/l at natural spreading rates, when applied by roller. Independent blind tests were unable to achieve a spread rate of 17m²/l when using the Dulux equivalent, even though this figure is stated on the cans.  During the tests, a spread rate of 11m²/l was achieved with the Dulux Vinyl Matt (Pure Brilliant White), significantly less than the Johnstone’s Covaplus Vinyl Matt (Brilliant White). These facts are what users need to make an informed choice about their next project and we are delighted that Johnstone’s has once again outperformed Dulux in yet another key area.”
