Painter of the Year 2009 Supreme Winner W D Davison and Sons Ltd brief, was to restore and redecorate the 2nd courtroom.
This room hadn’t been decorated for 35 years, therefore requiring extensive cleaning and preparation before painting could commence. The areas requiring redecoration included walls and a high vaulted ceiling. Due to the height of the ceiling, access was gained by using a fixed high level deck scaffold.
All work was carried out during the night, so the court services could still continue through the day as usual. In addition W D Davison Ltd had to work alongside many other trades to get the project completed. The vaulted ceiling is very intricate and has been painted in rich red and white, with ceiling rose relief areas picked out in gold leaf.
W D Davison and Sons Ltd have done a great job in restoring this listed building under difficult conditions. Their attention to detail and good preparation, will ensure the court room looks fresh for many years to come.
