Dirt/Contamination
Any dirt or contamination of a surface will impair the adhesion of the paint coating. The only solution to this, is to remove all the contamination prior to painting.
Mould/Mildew
Any type of fungal growth can occur on an exterior surface. This will require treating with Sterilisation Wash and removing prior to painting.
Rusting
Rusting is an orange/brown deposit which forms on metal surfaces. Prior to painting, all rusting should be removed and the substrate coated with an appropriate metal primer prior to painting. If rusting occurs on plastisol cladding or a powder coated surface, this should be abraded back to the bright metal.
Flaking Paint
If the surface has been previously painted, some detaching of paint from the surface may occur. Prior to applying a further coat of paint, all loose and flaking paint must be removed.
New Plastisol or Powder Coated Surface
All new plastisol requires weathering before painting therefore paint should not be applied until after the surface has had sufficient time to weather.
Damage to Plastisol or Powder Coated Surfaces
Any areas which have suffered damage to the surface as a result of impacts or fixings, will require replacing.
Greasy
When working with galvanised steel, occasionally a greasy residue may be left on the surface as a result of the galvanising process. If this occurs, the surface should be swabbed down with Cleaner & Degreaser until all grease is removed.
Shiny Surface
When working with galvanised steel, occasionally the surface can be very shiny as a result of the galvanising process. If this occurs, Mordant Solution should be applied to the surface prior to painting.
Corrosion
A white salt like deposit can sometimes occur on exterior metal. Prior to painting, this should be removed by lightly rubbing down taking care not to break through the metal surface
