Johnstone's Self Cleaning Masonry Adds Face Value

Pollution, exposure to the elements and the ravishes of time can leave any face looking tired and dirty but when it comes to building facades, the damage can be much more than just skin deep. A major problem across the UK, many professional painters and decorators have to spend huge amounts of time and money cleaning the exterior of a building and are often disappointed when the newly painted surfaces soon start to appear dirty once again. With this in mind, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self-Cleaning Masonry Paint has been specifically developed using advanced nanotechnology to keep building exteriors looking cleaner for longer.

With 15-year life expectancy Johnstone’s Stormshield Self-Cleaning Masonry Paint features microscopic nano particles, which at one billionth of a metre are invisible to the human eye. It is these tiny particles that adhere to the surface, transforming the normal crater landscape into an extremely smooth finish that dust and dirt simply can’t stick to.

As well as utilising the latest technology, the nanometric painting system also harnesses a more natural force – rain. Whereas most standard masonry products repel water, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self-Cleaning Masonry Paint works in the opposite way as it actually attracts water to its surface.  Therefore the rain will simply wash away any dirt particles.

Johnstone's Marketing Manager Kelly Quarmby says: “Painted exteriors are extremely vulnerable to pollution, weathering and the overall ravages of time and as a result, most masonry products only have a limited period of effectiveness. The cleaning, preparation and repeated painting of a building is not only time-consuming and expensive but unfortunately it can lead to customers holding the contractor responsible for what they may mistakenly view as being poor workmanship. With a life expectancy of 15 years, Johnstone’s Self-Cleaning Masonry Paint provides long-term customer satisfaction, leaving the contractor safe in knowledge that the finished job will retain its freshly decorated finish for years to come.”

Suitable for application on a variety of substrates including cement rendering, rough cast, brick and concrete, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self Cleaning Masonry Paint has undergone stringent anti-carbonation tests to successfully meet the standards of Class 1 of the EN ISO 7783-2 accreditation.  Carbon dioxide is a major contributor to the decay of concrete structures as it can penetrate the concrete and damage any steel structure within. The use of anti-carbonation products, such as Johnstone’s Self Cleaning Masonry Paint, provide a protective barrier and are therefore ideally suited for use on car parks and other buildings in highly populated areas.

Touch-dry in one hour, Johnstone’s Stormshield Self-Cleaning Masonry Paint can be applied using a brush or roller and as it is water-based, is fully compliant with the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) 2010 legislation. As well as being environmentally responsible the new paint also maintains its flexibility without chalking.
