Johnstone's Young Painter of the Year is a prestigious painting and decorating competition which celebrates young talent, promotes best practice and encourages young people to pursue a career in the decorating industry.
Launched in 2005, the competition consists of a series of regional heats and a national final and assesses students painting and decorating skills including…
• Setting out a design
• Working to a technical specification
• Applying different types of paint
• Selecting and using application tools
• Applying stencils
Regional Heats
Entrants are invited to take part in one of a number of regional heats that will take place around the UK. Regional heats are 1 day events at the end of which a winner will be selected. The winner of each heat receives a prize of £100 and the runner up £30. All entrants receive a goody bag.
National Final
The winner of each regional heats will be invited to take part in the National Final which is held at the National Painting & Decorating Show on 9th and 10th November in Coventry. Click the link below for more information.

As well as the practical element, the national final also consists of a written theory test. The overall winner will receive a package of prizes worth £2000.

To enter, students must be working towards the following recognised painting and decorating courses…
• NVQ Level 2
• Intermediate Construction Award
• Level 2 Diploma
