Johnstone’s Trade has been engaging with the local community in order to test it latest product innovation.

Large boards painted with Johnstone's latest R&D project- a cleanable, stain-resisting matt paint product currently under development, were taken to a local school where the pupils spent a colourful afternoon covering them over with children's paints in a variety of colours.

Johnstone's Trade has presented two large pieces of original art to school children from Heaton Avenue Primary School in Cleckheaton as a thank you for their help with a national exhibition.

The boards were then taken to the UK’s leading independent design festival, the Clerkenwell Design Week in London where visual artist Anthony Donnelly set out to prove that coatings innovation is not just a science – it’s an art. He removed sections of the children's poster paint using 'reverse graffiti' techniques to demonstrate the cleanable quality of the product and create stunning new artwork in the process.

Visitors to the Johnstone's Trade Detail Pavilion stand were impressed by the ease at which Anthony was able to clean the poster paint back to reveal the hardwearing wall paint beneath. Delegates were also invited to test the paint themselves using ketchup, coffee, lipstick and felt pens to stain the boards before cleaning them again.

Helen Tiplady, specification marketing manager at Johnstone’s Trade, said: “Clerkenwell Design Week was a roaring success for Johnstone's, and the colourful artwork that the Heaton Avenue pupils helped to create was right at the heart of our stand.

"We are always keen to work with young people and to help to nurture a passion for creativity, art and colour. This was also a great way to test our new product and the process is always hugely rewarding. We felt it was only right to take these wonderful creations back to the start of their journey”.
