Johnstone’s Trade is celebrating another successful year of sponsoring one of the flagship tournaments of the English football season.

Peterborough United lifted the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, which is open to Sky Bet League 1 and League 2 clubs, at Wembley recently after defeating Chesterfield 3-1 in the final in front of more than 35,000 people.

The thrilling spectacle at the national stadium provided a fitting conclusion to Johnstone’s Trade’s eighth season of sponsorship of the tournament.

The decorating industry was out in force for the final, with Johnstone’s inviting more than 400 of its key customers to enjoy corporate hospitality and watch the game from the best seats in the house.

Throughout the season, the Johnstone’s brand has connected with tens of thousands of football supporters through regular activity which has ensured awareness of the brand has soared and made a real impression on fans.

The popular Trophy Tours for the finalists, staged in Peterborough and Chesterfield, saw hundreds of people in each area encouraged to pre-final events at the local Johnstone’s Decorating Centres and other locations.

At the events, fans had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the coveted silverware and meet the players and managers from each of the clubs.

Another highlight of the season was the introduction of an 11th man competition for the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge.

This allowed one fan from each club the unique opportunity of joining the players for the test of accuracy in which they must attempt to chip the ball into a giant inflatable paint pot.

Success of clubs on the pitch was also rewarded, with the winner of each of the Team of the Round awards receiving a donation of Johnstone’s Paint to use on a club project.

Interest in the 2013-14 tournament hit a peak in Sunday’s final which attracted a strong attendance and was watched by a bumper television audience, providing excellent exposure for Johnstone’s Trade.

“It has been another fantastic Johnstone’s Paint Trophy season, culminating in a final which excelled both on and off the pitch,” said Ben Wilde, brand and sponsorship manager for Johnstone’s Trade.

“’Bringing Colour to the Beautiful Game’ has always been central to everything we do and it certainly has been achieved once again this season.

“It has enabled the Johnstone’s Trade message to be spread far and wide and the value of the tournament to the brand, and the exposure it provides, is enormous.”

Johnstone’s Trade is committed to sponsoring the Football League Trophy for a ninth season in 2014-15. An extra special season is in store with the Johnstone’s Trade brand celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2015.
