A disused hospital in York has been brought spectacularly back to life thanks in part to the use of high performance products from Johnstone’s Trade.
The former Purey Cust Nuffield Hospital had sat neglected for 15 years before an ambitious ten-month project got underway to turn it into a series of luxury homes.
Integral to the success of the project was Paul Crosby Painting and Decorating, who used products from the Johnstone’s Trade range to ensure the building was provided with a finish befitting of its history.
Johnstone’s high performing Covaplus Vinyl Matt was the primary product for the project, which allowed the team of decorators to benefit from its increased open time, allowing them more time to roll back into a wet edge. This ensured a better finish, particularly in those areas subject to critical lighting, by providing a more even appearance.
It wasn’t just Johnstone’s product that the team benefited from, however, as they also took full advantage of the brand’s comprehensive colour palette.
It was important that the colour schemes used remained faithful to the building’s history and so Johnstone’s Colour Advisory team helped Paul Crosby Painting and Decorating develop a colour scheme consisting of over more than 20 colours. The colour scheme was developed by GEM Construction, who were responsible for the overall refurbishment of Purey Cust.
The work was carried out to such a high standard that Paul Crosby Painting and Decorating was crowned as the Supreme Winner at this year’s Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Awards – beating off competition from 19 of the UK and Ireland’s finest decorating firms.
Director of the firm, Paul Crosby, said: “This was one of the best projects that we’ve worked on and we were aided every step of the way by Johnstone’s – both in terms of its outstanding product as well as the service we received. We’d have no hesitation in using Johnstone’s products again and have full confidence that they will help us deliver perfect finishes every time.”
