Carbon Reduction Included

Lowering carbon footprint, preserving performance.

At Johnstone's Trade, we are committed to reduce our products’ carbon footprint without compromising on quality or performance.

Several options exist to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (measured in CO₂e) in formulation such as recycled or bio-based raw materials or bio-mass balance approach in our manufacturing process.

Carbon Footprint

By switching to more sustainable materials, we aim to help preserve resources for future generations. Most of our products’ carbon footprint comes from the extraction and processing of raw materials. Raw materials weight accounts for 80% of a traditional paint and typically also +80% of the carbon footprint when looking at it from a life cycle perspective (LCA life cycle analysis). That’s why focusing on improving the sustainability of raw materials is essential to reducing the overall environmental impact of our paints.

Biomass Balance

With biomass balance we are able to integrate renewable raw materials into our productions and actively support the transition away from fossil-based resources. Turning sustainability into action and reduce the carbon footprint by minimum 10%.

To ensure transparency and credibility, REDcert2 has certified (REDcert²-902-25080191) that the product complies with the requirements of the certification system and qualifies as a fossil resource-saving product, using sustainably certified renewable raw materials in the value chain.

Material used in this improved product have reduced the formulation Carbon Footprint more than 15%* versus previous formulation.

Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

The PCF is the measure of the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an individual, organization, event, or product, expressed as weight of carbon dioxide equivalent/ a defined "functional unit” e.g 1L of paint or 1Kg of paint.

Our PPG Product Sustainability Center of Excellence (COE) has created an internal cradle-to-PPG gate Product Carbon Footprint tool to evaluate carbon emissions, design products with lower carbon footprints, allowing quick generation of PCF for customers and other stakeholders.

The output is a PCF report managed and produced according to the externally certified PPG methodology and this is how we evaluate the carbon footprint reduction on a new production formulation compared to the previous product.
