PPG EDUCATIONAL CPD CURRICULUM

The Role of Paint Systems in Sustainable Architecture

Sustainability is a key factor in the design of any building, from waste management and wellbeing factors to designing for durability and material sourcing; specifiers must develop and manage sustainability strategies to minimise environmental impact of construction projects now and in the future. With a focus on paint systems, this CPD explores the role of paint in sustainable design, providing guidance on making sustainable and durable specification choices to protect and beautify the spaces we live and work in; in line with the requirements of green building assessment methods including BREEAM and LEED.

Decorative Fire Protection for Internal Linings

This seminar covers all aspects relating to asset management in terms of the protection of people, property and environment in the event of a fire. It discusses how fire is created, current legislation, product testing procedures and the means of reducing the risk of damage and harm by the correct specification and use of, decorative flame-retardant coatings.

Wellbeing Design and Coatings

With a focus on colour & coatings the new RIBA approved CPD ‘Wellbeing Design and Coatings’ explores the role of colour in creating inclusive environments, with guidance in making material specification choices in line with the Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements of voluntary building assessment methods including BREEAM & WELL Building Standard.

Topics covered include applied colour psychology, cleanable environments, fire safety and the importance of Indoor Air quality when making material choices.

Understanding Colour

Colour can have a powerful influence on not only interiors but also exteriors of buildings. It can affect the look and feel of a room and be used to set the mood as well as establish branding – it can even make a building more welcoming or interesting to look at. But colour isn’t just about appearance – it can also serve a number of practical purposes.

Topics covered include:

What is colour?

  • Colour psychology
  • Communicating colour
  • Creating effective colour schemes
  • Using colour in the built environment
  • Colour application

RIBA Core Curriculum: Architecture for social purpose, Design, construction and technology, Health, safety & wellbeing, Inclusive environments.

Extending Maintenance Cycles through Paint

This seminar aims to provide an understanding of the importance of maintenance painting and extending life cycles. Topics covered include recognising when painting should be carried out, the importance of preparation, how to identify the different substrates and how these impact on paint specification, and common problems for different environments.

Cellulosic Passive Fire Protection for Structural Steel

Popular in the design of today’s civil buildings, structural steel demands a particular performance from a protective coating system. It must provide a smooth and aesthetically pleasing finish and protect the structure against corrosion – but most importantly, it must maintain the steel’s stability in the event of a fire.
