The prestigious Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year competition is now in its 11th year and is looking for the UK’s most talented young painters and decorators to showcase their skills.
Entries are now being accepted for the annual event, which is open to painting and decorating students and apprentices across the UK who are working towards an NVQ Level 2 or Diploma in Construction Level 2.
Entrants of the competition are invited to take part in one of a number of regional heats which are held at colleges throughout the UK taking place from February to May 2015. The regional heats are 1 day events and at the end of which a winner and runner up is selected. The winner of each heat receives a prize of £100 and the runner up £30. All entrants receive a goody bag.
The winners of the regional heats will then be invited to take part in the National Final which is held at the National Painting and Decorating Show at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. The National Final is a 2 day event, at the end of which someone is crowned the Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year who receives prizes worth up to £2000.
Ryan Chamberlain; the Winner of Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year 2014 strongly recommends and encourages other young painters and decorators to enter the competition: “I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the competition - working closely with the Johnstone’s technical team, learning new skills, meeting new people and working under the pressure of being constantly watched by the thousands of visitors to the show.
“It’s given me a big confidence boost and I know that when it comes to taking the first steps in my career after college, owning the Johnstone’s Young Painter of the Year 2014 title is going to make a massive difference to my CV. I’d definitely encourage anyone studying painting and decorating at college to enter - it could be you next year!”
