Johnstone’s Trade is looking for the next Young Painter of the Year to compete in its annual competition for the chance to win prizes worth up to £2000.
Now in its 13th year, the competition celebrates young painting and decorating talent across the UK through a series of nationwide heats and a live final at the National Painting and Decorating Show in November later this year.
To qualify, applicants need to be aged 17–27 and currently studying towards an NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating or a Diploma in Construction Level 2. Successful applicants will then put their skills to the test in one of eight regional heats taking place across the country from March.
Last year’s victor was Philip Orme, a student from City College Plymouth. After fending off competition from six other finalists and proving his skills in a range of technical tasks, Philip not only took home the 2016 title but also a whole host of prizes. These included an iPad Air 2, Amazon Echo, SkullCandy SmokinBuds 2 and a large selection of painting and decorating tools donated by sponsors.
Pete McParland, Senior Technician Application Consultant at Johnstone’s Trade, said: “We know there’s heaps of young talent in every corner of the UK which is why we’re bringing back our Young Painter of the Year competition for the 13th year running!
“Skill-based competitions like these are such a great way of recognising and celebrating fantastic talent. They also give people who are just starting out in their careers a well-deserved confidence boost and a platform to shout about their work and set themselves apart from the competition.“
