Authentic:
A return to lasting values in colour and design

In an era shaped by speed and constant change, the Authentic design theme responds with restraint, material honesty, and a renewed focus on longevity. Rather than pursuing novelty, this palette is grounded in craft, tactility, and timeless quality. Authentic reflects a growing need to design spaces that feel calm, reassuring, and built to last.

At its core, Authentic is about designing with care. Inspired by heritage and artisanal processes, it translates enduring values into contemporary interiors and architectural contexts. The result is a quiet, confident aesthetic that prioritises comfort, balance, and human scale.

Colour language: warm, grounded, and supportive

The Authentic palette centres on yellow-greens, warm neutrals, earthy browns and organic greens, forming a colour language that sits naturally between architecture and nature. These tones function as supportive backdrops, allowing materials, light and spatial proportions to take the lead.

Shaded hues such as Secret Safari (PPG1110-4) introduce warmth with a subtle botanical character, while deeper greens like Pinetop (PPG1125-7) add stability and depth. Warm neutrals such as Crushed Silk (PPG1024-3) and Gray Marble (PPG1002-4) soften transitions between spaces, helping interiors feel cohesive rather than segmented.

A key characteristic of this palette is its enveloping quality: colours absorb light gently, reducing contrast and visual noise. This makes Authentic particularly suitable for environments where visual calm and continuity are essential.

The 60-30-10 principle offers a clear, practical framework for achieving balance and harmony in any interior setting, whether residential, commercial, educational or healthcare.

Materiality and texture: Colour in dialogue with surface

Authentic colours are most effective when paired with honest, tactile materials. Raw or lightly finished wood, wool and linen textiles, artisanal ceramics, and brushed metals reinforce the palette’s sensory richness.

Here, colour is never applied in isolation. A warm tone such as Roman Bath (PPG1198-5) gains nuance on a mineral plaster wall, while earthy browns like Auburn Trees (PPG1070-6) deepen when used alongside natural timber. Texture becomes a design tool, allowing colour to shift subtly throughout the day.

Application Across Sectors

The strength of Authentic lies in its adaptability across environments, each with distinct functional needs.

  • Residential: Authentic supports interiors focused on comfort and identity. Warm neutrals and organic greens create living spaces that feel personal and enduring, able to evolve over time without losing coherence.
  • Healthcare: In care settings, calming tones such as Old Silk (PPG0993-6) and muted greens help reduce stress and create spaces that feel humane rather than clinical.
  • Education: For learning environments, the palette provides visual stability without monotony. Its restrained warmth supports focus and long-term use in classrooms, libraries and shared areas.
  • Hospitality and public spaces: Authentic communicates quality and care. Combined with tactile materials, it creates welcoming environments that invite people to linger rather than impress at first glance.

A sustainable design attitude

Beyond aesthetics, Authentic represents a long-term approach to colour specification. By favouring tones that age gracefully and materials that endure, the palette aligns with sustainable design principles, reducing the need for frequent updates while maintaining visual relevance.

Designing with authenticity

The Authentic palette encourages architects and designers to consider how colour can support well-being, material integrity, and emotional comfort. Through thoughtful tones such as Secret Safari and balanced neutrals, it offers a grounded foundation for spaces that feel quietly confident, adaptable, and built for the long term.
